Hevelius’s depiction of Mons Maenalus

Boötes is shown standing on Mons Maenalus on this plate from the Firmamentum Sobiescianum star atlas of Johannes Hevelius published in 1690. In his accompanying star catalogue and introductory text, the Prodromus, the name is given as Mons Moenalus, presumably a misprint. Image © Tartu Observatory Virtual Museum.

Press, Tashkent, in 1978. In this facsimile edition, the
diphthong in the name “Maenalus” has been removed.
The full name is shown correctly in previous editions of the
facsimile and on the Hevelius original.
