Norway 1941 – Boat and aurora

This stamp shows an old-fashioned fishing boat known as a fembøring in front of snow-covered mountains typical of northern Norway, with an aurora streaking the sky overhead. The wording ‘Hålogaland utstillingen Mai–Juni 1941’ refers to the Hålogaland exhibition of 1941 held in Oslo – see the poster for it here, very similar in design to the stamp. The stamp was issued to raise money for the relief fund for fishermen’s families, hence the 10 øre surcharge.
