Zambia, 2000
On a Millennium sheet of 18 stamps
celebrating highlights from the years 1950 to 2000, Stephen
Hawking is pictured against a background of an equation-filled
blackboard and the famous Whirlpool spiral galaxy, M51,
floating above. The text in the margin of the sheet says:
“Stephen Hawking showed that Black Holes emitted
radiation and provided equations charting the universe’s
expansion from a single point to it’s [sic] current size
over fifteen billion years.”

It is part of a sheet titled Visionaries of the Twentieth
Century. The scan comes from Joachim Reinhardt’s website
of physics-related stamps.
